I share Tea-party outrage. We should all be angry. But Tea-party dupes have not tumbled to the fact that they are being manipulated by corporate propaganda. Anti big-government sloganeering serves the interests of predatory corporations. They know that when government lacks the power to protect us, they win.
The multibillionaire Koch brothers, for example, spend hundreds of millions to fund phony grassroots libertarian organizations. But the liberty they are fighting for is the liberty to victimize workers and consumers and dodge responsibility for their 200 documented oil spills.
The tea-party movement is oblivious to the fact that the Genn Becks and Rush Limbaughs earn tens of millions of dollars working for the corporate owned media. They are paid well to stoke grass-roots anger and redirect it against the enemies of their corporate employers.
Instead of being outraged at reformers who are trying to rein in corporate plunder and abuse, we should be outraged at the predatory corporations who are flooding the internet and media with cleverly scripted disinformation.
