As of this writing, the legislature is ending its third week of special session. Fred reports his frustration over the budget impasse, but has managed to keep important funding packages in that will positively impact all residents of the 35th. He has secured $750,000 for an environmental assessment of the Belfair Bypass. Fred has led the charge in bringing the Bypass off the back shelf. Fred was also instrumental in prime sponsoring a Bill that will bring a new company (ADAGE) to Shelton. This company will use the logging debris left behind, process and convert the debris into energy. The hope is that this project will create 400 immediate construction jobs, and then sustain 100 family wage jobs. With united teamwork from other members of the Coastal Caucus, Fred was successful in bringing the 520 bridge Bill to passage which will create 3,000 jobs in Grays Harbor County constructing the new pontoons for the new 520 bridge. Fred is opposed to the furlough Bill in its present form, as it will adversely impact those least able to afford the cuts. Fred does support the Model Toxic Substances Tax for pollution cleanup, because he’s committed to a healthy thriving environment in the 35th. He worked with the other Representatives from Kitsap County to shepherd HB 3209 concerning a more efficient ferry system through the House Transportation Committee, of which he is a member. He also supported a bill, sponsored by Senator Kilmer, requiring the DOT to take over maintenance of part of Highway 166 (Mile Hill) in Port Orchard.
On the election side, Fred has received the endorsement of over 250 individuals so far, including numerous elected officials in each of the four counties he represents. His re-election website is now up and running at http://www.re-electfredfinn.com/. Fred is a thoughtful and insightful Legislator, and we need him back in Olympia representing us. He is a consensus builder throughout the district, and has utilized his leadership to the full advantage of his district.
